Go to cloth shop and buy some white rip stop nylon. Cut it to size and tape it over your flash. This is the quick, inexpensive way that works great.

Looking for a digital camera with a red eye flash that is automatic or right on the camera base?
Hi! I'm looking for a new digital camera. The one I have now is a 5 MP HP and it takes beautiful pictures outside. However when indoors the flash can be problematic. Everyone's eyes are closed- unless I go into the camera menu every time I turn it on and put on the red eye flash (double flash). It's very annoying!
Does anybody know of a good digital camera that has the red eye flash button or switch on the base of the camera- so you don't have to fumble with the menu?

Most, if not all, of the Canon SD series cameras have a flash button conveniently where your thumb would be when taking pictures. You can switch the flash modes by just pushing the button. My Canon SD450 has 5 flash modes (Auto, On, Off, Red-Eye Reduction, Night-Syncro) and it's fairly easy to switch it on the fly. No menu to scroll through...just push the button until you get to the flash mode you want and snap away.

How do I make multiple buttons for a flash soundboard?
I'm trying to make a soundboard in flash. I found a number of tutorials online, but they all show you how to make your first button and then say "repeat the process."
The first time I tried making all buttons part of the same layer. The only one that worked was the first one. I also tried putting each button on its own layer, but that didn't work either.
Anyone had a similar problem?

I have this old polaroid camera that I got from my older sister. It's been used already but it works great, however I can't turn the flash off and it's difficult when I want something with detail - flash usually blurs it out. I know you can turn the flash off because it says to turn flash off check booklet. But of course, I don't have the booklet! Does anyone know how to do it?

I'm trying to shoot some satin clothing items but am struggling. I'm using a flash gun as there's not enough natural/non-flash light available to work with. I'm either ending up with a very underexposed images or an image with lots of reflection/burn out on the satin (or both!). Any help appreciated.

Try other software such as Windows Movie Maker, because I think you can't edit video in flash unless it started out as a flv flash file in the beginning.

How do I use a hot shoe flash?
I have a Canon Digital XTi and just recently bought a flash for the hot shoe. I am able to rotate it up and down, 45* 60*75* and 90*. I can not turn it side to side.
It also has EV Adjust on it. And I can adjust that anywhere from -1.5 thru +1.5. I am not sure what that means. Any helpful suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance.

The EV Adjust allows you to adjust the amount of light the flash creates each time it pops. If you adjust it into the negative it will throw less light. Conversely, adjusting into the positive will throw more light.
If you are using it primarily as fill flash to reduce harsh shadows you will usually achieve the best results by setting it for -1 to -1.5. There is lots of great information on the web about how to effectively use your flash in different situations. Mine is used primarily for fill flash in adventure and nature photos.
Also, you should know that unless you filter or diffuse the light emitted from the flash it will be rather harsh and noticeable. I use a small, portable softbox that attaches to the flash via velcro to create a softer, diffused light that appears much more natural. Another option is to bounce the flash off a wall or a reflector.

Go into a dark room and let your eyes adjust. This room MUST be completely dark, no light whatsoever, get under a thick blanket if at all possible. Bring a camera with a flash and charge the flash. Now take a picture with the flash facing upwards while everyone is in a close circle and whatever the flash lights up will remain in your head as a still frame for a good 2-10 seconds. Even if the person runs behind you it will seem as if they are still where they were when the picture was taken. I have asked this before and no one has given me a ligitimate answer. PS. This is really fun to do with friends. I think I am one of the first ppl to notice this...if not the first because I tried looking it up with NO luck. Dont ask how i found this out. I guess its kind of like when the flash stays in your field of vision after a picture except the whole image that was lit stays, for a while too!

When I was on my computer working on a project.I kept my flash disk plugged in. There was a weird picture showing up on the screen. It was a hacker. When I saw my flash disk blinking, I immediately pulled it out. Now when I opened my files in my flash disk I find pics that weren't even downloaded there by me. Don't people still read tales of King Arthur? Didn't we all flock to see the films of Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings"? It's not ROYALTY that's the distancing factor here.
If anything, I think the prologue to the animated "Much Ado" points out the fact that, for most students, the initial CLASSROOM exposure to Shakespeare's works is woefully inadequate. Teachers who don't "get it" themselves try to teach the stuff to students who need a proper grounding and context in order to appreciate it themselves.
You know how I know this? Because my OWN first exposure to Shakespeare was bloody awful! Some teacher told our class to read "King Lear" and "Henry IV, part one," with no preparation or introduction. I don't think I've ever had a more unpleasant educational experience. It made me feel STUPID, frankly.
Fortunately, the next teacher I had who approached Shakespeare was one of those rare enlightened souls who knew the material, loved the material, and knew how to share his enthusiasm with his students. That guy changed my life.

Can you buy a digital camera with an instant flash?
I have been looking to buy a digital camera, but I would like to try and find one that has an instant flash. All the cameras I have found have a delayed flash, and I am curious to know if there is one out there that doesn't do this. Can anyone give me any info on this?

Buying a Digital SLR camera can give you back full control. Even using an accessory flash, if I pre-focus and manually meter for light, I get such fast response that I am able to photograph a drop of water in mid air. That should be fast enough for you.

My goal is to run programs and games that require an install from cd from my flash drive on computers that do not have admin access (when typical installation is not possible). I figured that I could install a virtual drive on the flash drive to play without any physical cd's, then install the actual games on the same drive as well.

I have seen the flash animation games and I like them and wanted to create one so how do you do that? So you download anything? What do you do to get it done? I really dont want any stupid answers plz.

My suggestion here is buy a Canon manufactured flash, and by the best unit you can afford. The good Canon flash units will basically last until you break them and if you decide to upgrade your Canon equipment, will work fine on your upgraded Canon.
Buying a new lens is a different matter altogether. The lens that came with your camera is an excellent general purpose picture taking lens which gives you a range of slight wide-angle pictures to slight telephoto pictures, which should cover the majority of your picture taking situations to start with. As you grow into your camera system and find out where your picture taking interests lie, you will find situations that you want to photograph that are difficult when using the lens that came with your camera. This is the time to think about buying additional lenses, not now just to get a second lens. As your photographic interests develop you will add specific lenses to two pictures within your specific interest areas. At that time you're ready to buy a new lens or lenses and you will know what you need to fulfill your picture taking interests. I suggest you wait until these interests develop and then get the right lens for you.

What operating system do you have?
If it's XP or Vista then you should have absolutely no problem at all putting stuff on there. It should at least be showing up in 'My Computer' and dragging the files into the flash drive.

My son is behind on his speech and we use communication flash cards with his therapist to help him. They are pictures on a card exp: ball, car, milk, snack, bath and he pick one off a board to tell us what he wants. Looking mostly for a web site i could order something like this from. I don't have a program either to do this so if you know of a good one that would help to.

This can be a fun activity to do together. "Help me find a CAR" or "This dog looks like Fluffy" You get the idea.

Step 2: Open up another My Computer window but then select the external drive, (as a user said before, a flash drive will probably be too small, and is less reliable as it uses static technology).
Step 3: Hopefully the windows are small enough that you can simply drag the highlighted items by click and holding down the click over the highlighted items and releasing the key as the mouse hovers over the external drives My Computer window. to transfer files, you can simply ctrl+a to select them all, highlight all of them or pick the files while holding on ctrl button. then just ctrl+c (copy) or ctrl+x (cut) them then go to your external hd, and press ctrl + v (paste)

Miray Software HD Cloner is a non brainer. Amazing program i even can boot from the USB (if the cloned HD was bootable)
Reply:This will primarily be an issue of size. Most flash devices are not large enough to hold the contents of your drive. Most of your user data is in:
Windows: %USERPROFILE%\"My Documents"
OS X and *nix are in "~", OS X clearly indicates which folder is your home directory (hard to miss).
The sum total of your profile directory will be a smaller footprint than the entire drive.
You need to compress your home directory or use a backup program (ntbackup on windows to a a BKF file), or you could enable (if on windows) NTFS/filesystem compression on your target device. Any way this is done, about half the size of your home directory will be at a minimum what is needed on the flash device.
Once you are sure your home directory will fit, then use a utility like WinZip/7-Zip, or WinRAR, NTBackup or use compression and copy the files there.
The main problem with this is there is likely more data that you need than just what is in your homedirectory, possibly MP3s, videos and other assorted data files.

to transfer files, you can simply ctrl+a to select them all, highlight all of them or pick the files while holding on ctrl button. then just ctrl+c (copy) or ctrl+x (cut) them then go to your external hd, and press ctrl + v (paste)

Reply:This will primarily be an issue of size. Most flash devices are not large enough to hold the contents of your drive. Most of your user data is in:
Windows: %USERPROFILE%\"My Documents"
OS X and *nix are in "~", OS X clearly indicates which folder is your home directory (hard to miss).
The sum total of your profile directory will be a smaller footprint than the entire drive.
You need to compress your home directory or use a backup program (ntbackup on windows to a a BKF file), or you could enable (if on windows) NTFS/filesystem compression on your target device. Any way this is done, about half the size of your home directory will be at a minimum what is needed on the flash device.
Once you are sure your home directory will fit, then use a utility like WinZip/7-Zip, or WinRAR, NTBackup or use compression and copy the files there.
The main problem with this is there is likely more data that you need than just what is in your homedirectory, possibly MP3s, videos and other assorted data files.

Aside from going to college obviously, can anyone recommend any websites or books that are good at teaching someone to build flash?
Also, I have Adobe After Effects CS2. Can I use that to make flash or do I need a specific program like Swish Max?

Do flash hiders in airsoft rifles really make any difference in the range or fps of the gun?
i am an airsoft player and i don't know if flash hiders are really useful in airsoft guns. i don't think they serve the same purpose that they do in real guns.
i have an airsoft rile (f2000) but i don't know whether to keep the long nose flash hider on or just keep it short (remove the barrel). aesthetically the long nose barrel makes the gun look like pinnochio, so i'd remove it if it did not contribute to the performance in any way.

Your right, unlike in the real steel rifles, airsoft flashhiders are primerally there to complete the look of the gun. If you do remove your flashhider, it shoud not effect your guns performence in any way.
On the real weapon though, the flashhider destributes the gasses coming out of the barrel of the gun in such a way, that the orange gas flash is really hard to notice. More modern flash suppressors are even desighen to keep recoil to a minimum by forcing the gasses to press down on the flashhider.

I always seem to blink whenever someone uses a camera flash and my eyes always ends up closed in photos. Is there a way to overcome this so I can take photos with my eyes open?

Why am I not getting any sound from rear speakers in Flash apps?
Ok so why am I not getting any sounds on my rear speakers when trying to watch youtube videos or stuff like that? I only get it on my front speakers.
Note: The rear output works as I get sound from winamp, media player and stuff like that. Just no flash. Why?

It could be that winamp and wmp can create simulated surround sound for the usual audio files (and embedded audio formats within video files), but flash uses a different kind of compression system. So the basic audio comes out your front speakers, but there isn't enough compatibility to simulate the surround sound for your rear speakers.
I'm guessing here, so if anyone with more understanding of flash files wants to enlighten me, as well as you, please jump in.

And copying files from one flash drive to another is as simple as dragging and dropping files from the first drive to the other after you've plugged in both drives.

How much is a good price for a used SB28 flash ?
Is this a good flash to get for my nikon n80? (Yes I mean N80 NOT D80) I need something good for fill in flash when i travel. I want good equipment, however I also am price conscious. Eventually I will also get digital and would like it if it also worked on my digital camera (but its not required). Is this a good flash to buy? Any other suggestions?

Just be aware that the SB28 is not the SB28DX (which is coded for digital. As long as you're using it with a film camera, it's great.
I had a 28 with my last film camera - an N80. And I now have a 28DX with my D100.
Very reliable flash.
And here's a bonus. If and when you convert to Digital you can use it as a slave for your newer flash. I'm doing it now with an even older SB26.
