I want to be able to shoot during basketball games and "freeze" the action without having to use a flash.
What is the best digital camera under $1000 for indoor sports shots without using a flash?
Almost any digital SLR will work- take the ISO to 800 or above and set the white balance for the artificial light. Your main concern here is having a fast lens, one with a 2.8 constant aperture and these aren't cheap. You need to be able to shoot with the shutter set to at least 250th of a second. If you are shooting in a typical high school gym with typically horrible lighting, this might not be possible. I shoot volleyball with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens and it is perfect for getting net play from the back of the gym. Basketball doesn't need that much lens- some shoot under the basket with a 50mm 2.8 or faster.
Reply:the fuji fine pix camera is the coolest camera out there, its about 250...and works better than any camera i've ever had,....even the more expensive one...it has so many great features......its slim.....sleek and ...just the best camera ever....And its a videocam
Reply:try to get `last years` model
fuji s3pro it is well liked for it`s low light capability.
should be able to get a camera body for $800 to $1000.
Reply:Best Brand is nikon, many think so!
HP is good too, and Sony.........
Reply:For sport you need a fast camera. If you don't want to use flash, you need one with large f-stop and high ISO value. Select one with such characteristics from Canon or Sony
