In certain modes when autofocussing the flash goes off once or twice, and buzzes a little bit. My previous Sony A100 did that, and my brand new 450D does it too. Is there a way of turning this off, and what is the reason for it?
Why is the flash going off when I autofocus on my DSLR?
It is probably what is called auto-focus assist. The camera uses this when the lighting is too low for the camera to focus the lens. It is a feature you can turn off.
Look in your cameras menu for a feature that may be called AF Assist ... then turn it off
Reply:Two reasons... it needs more light to focus and allows you to see where the light is going. If you don't want your camera to do it then push down the flash after it pops up. There is a small button on the side to open it again if you need it.
Reply:that's the AF assist you can turn it off but it helps a lot in low light.
