What is the impact of the invention of the flash drive?

Hi, i am doing a report on the flash drive which is relatively new technology. The report is incredibly important and I really need this.

I need to noe the impact that the flash drive has made on the world, this includes but is not limited to economy, daily use, sales, convenience, change in the way we store things. It could also include the environmental impacts and the rise in its popularity or a combination of all the above.

This report is incredibly professional so it would help if u posted a site from which u get ur information from. Wikipedia is not an option.

Please and thank you

What is the impact of the invention of the flash drive?
I don't think there's going to be a huge amount of things you can say here.

What comes to mind is quite obvious:

- Falling demand for floppies, CD-Rs, zip disks, etc.

- In terms of environment, less CD-Rs being thrown away?

Good luck with the report, sorry I couldn't be more help.
Reply:You asked this elsewhere and I answered, but here is what I said:

Sorry, no sites. But... just think about this logically. A flash drive is nothing more than a floppy was a number of years ago. It is simply a medium by which you transfer data in the form of files. The difference is simply the capacity and the electronics between a floppy drive and the USB connection. You are overthinking this. Before flash drives, there were large capacity alternatives like zip drives which held 100mb and newer models which held 250mb and tape drives which held many GB. No matter the medium, you are simply using a device to transfer files and that is how you should present it. Flash drives are nothing more than another medium with a larger capacity than a floppy was years ago
Reply:it made things easier, making people more productive and helping increase incomes. It made computers cheaper, and laptops lighter -- by eliminating floppy drive.

It killed the market for floppy disks (3.5" square plastic things) and zip drives. They both provided storage %26amp; transfer, but they were slow and disk was large and disk drive cost money.

It also reduced the market for Writeable and re-writeable CDs

Environmental impact is definitely positive since flash drives use way less energy than disk drives, and less disks end up in trash.

You should mention that primary function of flash drive is transfer; storage is really only useful for backup since Hard drives got so much more space.
